Biography[]

Early Life[]

Marjorie Wellen was born October 27th, 1922, on her parents farm in Moffet Corner, the seventh of eight children, and youngest daughter. Raised in the farm, Marge grew up acustomed to farm labor, and lived less than comfortably, in a financial sense. She and her siblings shared rooms, and slept in beds stuffed with straw; in addition, there was no plumbing. The children were educated in a nearby schoolhouse, and diligently attended church services multiple times a week. Marjorie developed a somewhat reckless phase as a young adult, and at one point, eager to see the world, hitchhiked as far as Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. Marjorie worked as a cashier at a grocery store in her youth, and, feeling upset regarding the unfair wages compared to her male co-workers, enlisted in the air force, where she eventually became a typist in Grey Gardens. Urged on by her older sister, Madge, Marge attended a USO dance, where she met Jack Carroll, a soldier, 9 years her senior. The two fell madly in love, and were married on November 23th, 1945.

Married Life and Motherhood[]

The young couple moved into a comfortable home in Port Margaret, once owned by Jack's sister, Lana. The pair welcomed their children, Gaberiel Jack Carroll on December 22nd, 1947, Deanne Joyce Carroll on July 14th, 1949, Martha Leann Carroll on January 23rd, 1951, and Trisha Rebecca Caroll on July 31st, 1955.
